  1. By posting the photos in the IForgeIron Gallery they are automatically resized. Just go to the image you need displayed in the gallery, right click the mouse, click properties, and then copy the bottom URL. Do NOT use the "click to enlarge" full size image as this is many times way to large for the forum. When you type in your post, click on the manage attachments button and paste the URL into the Upload File from a URL space and click upload. For additional photos, repeat the process. This way you have the image in the post where it is used as a visual aid, and in the gallery where it well be seen by everyone, not just those reading the post. Douple posting an image in this fashion is encouraged as many more viewers see your work. Many times you will see both an image in the post AND a thumbnail. The image in the post is referenced via URL to another internet location. If the other internet location is deleted, the image can not be displayed and it creates a broken link in the forum and the information is lost. The thumbnail is part of the IForgeIron Forum, is saved in the forum, and the information remains for all to use. If the thumbnail is not created when the post is originally made, someone has to review the posts and then add the image manually so the information is not lost. This will become an issue as the forum grows larger so your attention to these details now is most appreciated.
  2. You may want to look at the Blueprint BP0300 on Getting started in Blacksmithing. BP0133 the 55 Forge and BP0238 55 Forge/side blast are very simple to make forges that work. Neither forge is lined but uses ash as a insulating material. There is other information there you may find of interest as well.
  3. It has been brought to my attention that this thread needs moderated. Any time a viewer feels uncomfortable, feels they must defend themselves, or feels they no not want to post, something is not right. Please work things out very quickly and please be respectful of each other. Site Admin
  4. Check the Blueprints BP0267 Making a Collar or Clip By Strine, HWooldridge, Irnsrgn, Ten Hammers, Frogvalley, Rantalin, 6013, Ed Thomas, B.H., and Jim Carothers This is more than just a tutorial, it is a look into how blacksmiths solve problems. The original topic is discussed on "How to make a Collar" under problem solving If you use the search feature on this forum: Collar > gives 20 results, Clip > gives 11 results. If others have better information or ideas, please chime in.
  5. Safety first If you can not be safe, don't play with the chemicals. This means full face protection, gloves, chemical aprons, and the list goes on and on. As Miles pointed out, breathing the fumes is NOT a good thing and does damage starting with the first sniff. You must know the dangers before you start and already have a plan for when things go wrong. 911 (emergency assistance) on the telephone speed dial is not a plan, it is a last feble attempt to get help. There are people of all ages reading this material we need to continually remind them to be safe.
  6. ODBSA Meeting for August 2006 Charlie Hanks' place Photos from this event are posted in the IForgeIron Gallery

You must provide the practice to make it look easy.

  10. General Information: If you choose to ignore a member of the IForgeIron forum, you have the option to click on user control panel at the top left of the page, click on buddy / ignore lists second up from the bottom of the page, and add that members name to the RIGHT hand side of the box, and click update ignore list. This will remove all the posts from this member from your view. If you have a specific reason to believe there is a problem on the site, please contact Glenn with your information. Until he is alerted to the problem, he can not fix it. River-Gazer: This post is NOT a suggestion toward you, but is posted as general information to the members of the site. If you (River-Gazer) are sincere in your quest for knowledge, the people at IForgeIron are just as sincere in answering your questions, and providing you with good information. You have experienced this first hand already. You are encouraged to ask questions in order to gain knowledge and understanding of the craft, the same as any other member of the site.
  11. Nitewalker, When you finish reading what is shown on the forum, go to the bottom of the page and click on archives, then click on one of the discussions (blacksmithing for instance). This will show a list of the topics that are "archived" and available for viewing. Click on the subject you want and the conversation is listed for your review. You can use the search feature and enter key words to find things. There are 3 search engines, one for the opening page of IForgeIron, a different search engine for the IForgeIron Forum, and yet another search engine for the IForgeIron Gallery. Then there are the Blueprints, or how-to projects. Welcome to the site.
