There is a TON of info about tumblers here at IFI. Do a search and settle in. Lots of us have tried different things, some work and some not so much

Very, very good work, Theo! You are getting on well with the printer. I love the entire piece

Both are very nice work. Love 'em both!

Great guy to deal with -
Nice job on the anvil!

Yeah, gotta be PC nowdays, and heaven forbid upsetting anyone for any reason.
Nice job on those slingshots, brother! -
Yeah, the poor, downtrodden banks VS their nasty, demanding customers. They pay.01 percent inerest on my CDs, but charge 7.7 percent on my credit card. I feel just awful for them:)

Nice work!

Speaking of flux- several folks have been doing good forge welds with NO FLUX, just the proper welding temp. I also watched a youtube vid where the man did all his forge welding [for the past several years] just spraying the material with WD40 before the initial heat, then using nothing from then on. These folks are mostly using gas forges- don't know if any are using coal or not. Because of the wear and tear of forge linings I am going to try my next Damascus billet with no flux or wd40 or anything. I have a lot of respect for the makers who have said they do this and want to try it. Sure be nice not to have to reline my forge after the flux eats the guts out :) You may want to give it a try, too.

Aw Crap! I am jealous of how good your last giant stack came out :) Great job.
Can barely wait for the bank to open tomorrow so I can try the half dollars and doint the initial weld in the vice.
Thanks a million to all for contributing to this post!!!!!!

Great thread! I am now anxious to try the half dollars myself :)
More pics, fellas!

You do nice work! I like the table a lot :)

It isn't only the tools in the shop that are dangerous- with I had just a dime for every cut over the last 15 years...
Nice knife! -
Very good work! I like your operner a LOT :)
Thanks for posting the pics so we could see your work. -
I love the planning and collaberation with your soldier about this very personal purpose-built weapon. And you did a fine job of melding all the rquirements into a finished piece that will definately make his day to day easier and could get used to save his or another's life.
Bravo!!!!!
What blackening solution did you use? -
Pike3e could we see how it came out? I guess I don't get the difference in the wheel making a diference in the finish? This is not any kind of challeng to what you said, and I believe you. Honest I do. Man, anything that cuts down on hand sanding is the next tool on my list :) Don't think I ever gave a softer (?) wheel any thought.
Can you explain for me? And tell us where you bought it?
Thanks,
Dave -
We are NOT NOT NOT getting bored with this topic. Several of us are following along reading everything you both type!
I had about given up, since I only got one usable billet from my 10 or 12 tries. I had been mixing coins and doing them in small batches. After reading along so far I have learned to use the 1/2 dollar coins after flattening them, and stack them up tall for a decent size billet. I just tried to get a couple rolls of halves but they arent't available here in our tiny town. They are on my list for next trip to the city.
I appreciate the typing you are ALL doing. This is GOOD stuff! -
Great job, fine knife. You can get things so perfect that they look machine made, defeating the purpose of making things by hand. Filework just leavs me cold if it is too 'even'. Hand crafted!

WOW!
Just WOW! -
Nice work and a very usable knife!
-
Great thread! Thanks to all for chiming in on this. I will try half dollars on my next batch :) Same amount of fuss either way but twice the billet size? Hmmmmm....

Love the bush knife and the rail! Very nice work :)
Looks like you are all set. Enjoy!
