Well, if he asks just about anyo. here, they'll have roughly the same opinion of "yard anvils".
Hey Frosty, or anyone who'd know, would one of those "cooling, heating, and air" places have drops of ceramic wool? I've had horrible luck finding furnace supply/repair places and I just now had a realization that maybe, just maybe, they call 'em something different down here.
the worst they can do is say no. On the other hand they might have what your looking forn or can point you in the right direction. Check for ceramic supply stores also

Wow. So many posts calling me a fool for wanting to do something that i never said i wanted to do (casting). What i was referring to was wootz steel or crucible steels. The smelting was just an idea since i do not have a ready source of iron ore available to me.

I have an anvil just like this. The face on mine is in better shape though. Have no problems using it with a small bick in the hardie

I have the crazy idea in my head to take acraps of steel wire(1010) and filings from the shop lathes, drills, etc and mixing in equal parts crushed glass. Then using the mix to charge a smelter or in crucible steel.
My question is will this work in lieu of an iron ore?

How well do the atwood blowers work for forges? Atm i am running a car heater fan off of a #29 deep cycle with some #10 cansas the squirrel cage

on the other hand you could use it to build a forge. eithe. by fastening it to the underside of a steel plate with a cut out to match the inside of the rotor or by taking a piece of *NON*GALVANIZED sheet metal and curling it inside the inner wall of the rotor as a fence to allow for a deeper fire. Leaving the two ends a bit apart so the workpiece could be slipped inside and preferably have a "mouse hole" opposite the opening to allow long pieces to go through the hot spot.
i did something similar with brake drum/rotor from my jeep. 2ftx3ft sheet cut from an old burn barrel folded edges and a circle cut out to drop the drum in. Some concret and perlite mix to line it with and bring the inside level with the top of the rotor face and she'll melt steel quicker than you can say boo.

Very nice work and write-up.

Thing is I've worn the goatee since 94 when I got off active duty. The rest is generally Miami Vice type shadow . I usually just take the clippers to the sides and neck every week or so

Y'all I have a question. I have a 8x8x16 120# block of solid steel that I'm having a bar time of figuring out how to mount on a stand. No feet to tie down with and not sure I want to break the blocks integrity by drilling into it.
thank you -
I really thought this was gonna be a post about the police harassing you after a neighborhood complaint. Glad to see it was rather about something really karma instead.

I used corner brackets and pre-drilled lag screws to lock mine down to a 2x12 stand

Look up steve sells here on the site as he is in your area. And welcome 'crawler' (if you don't explain we'll make something up I'm sure)

Just don't use any coated or galvanized steels. They can release toxic fumes that will kill you when heated in a forge

I'll be the first to say it 01. You suck dude!
Seriously nice score there -

Hey leave me out of this one.
Although I would like to see your shop in person mike. -
Have to agree with the doc. Handles on grill forks work best when the vertical and horizontal cross-section are equal. Oh yeah and most grilles won't put holes in the meat (all the juices leak out dryer steaks) tongs definitely tongs

What mr frosty was saying is the end of your tip needs to be only halfway into the opening of the cross t. This is where you start it with when tuning.
