I found my big anvil on Craigslist in Johnson city Tennessee, I bought my canedy Otto blower from him two weeks earlier. When I walked into his small garage right at the front of the garage say these two huge anvils. A Peter wright 360 pounder and my 400+ mystery anvil. After I bought the blower I was checking out the anvils and I said what's the price on larger anvil. He said 1100. Well we talked more and I walked away from my dream anvil, right before we started to walk out of his garage I went back and hit the anvil with a hammer that he had laying on it. The guy said young man since you actually use this stuff I Will let you have it for 800. I about passed out, I never tried to haggle or nothing he just seen that I wasn't a collector and that I was In love, two weeks later I came back with the 800 and brought my baby home! The anvil broke a set of 350 bathroom scales, the needle passed up 350 and went all the way back around and broke, so I figure 400 is a safe bet on the weight.

I enjoy my little set up, I wish I had someone to learn from in person other than YouTube, I just forge everyday and learn from my mistakes. The 180 pound anvil is a Mousehole, but 400 pound anvil doesn't look like a Mousehole to me but I'm not expert, I don't think mouse holes have markings on the front feet do they?

Little rivet forge, 180 pound mouse hole and 400+ pound mystery anvil, I have a canedy Otto blower hand crank blower and a buffalo hand crack also, a work table With two leg vises. It's not the best but I love it! Can anyone identify my 400 pound anvil? I will post some pics, the only markings I can find are On the front feet, IN is stamped there. Any help is Appreciated!

I recently bought a 400+ pound anvil off of Craigslist and it does not have any markings anywhere except on the front between the feet, it has IN stamped and that's all. I took pictures of the front and back and the sides and top, I would have took a picture if the bottom but it's already stapled to my stump. Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks very much Frosty! I enjoy making them, I really enjoy forge welding and these seem to be great practice. Now if I can figure out how to make a rail road spike tomahawk!

Hello everyone greetings from south eastern Kentucky! I'm new to smithing, I've spent the last 6 months collecting my anvils and vises and the other tools. . I've managed to get a 400+ pound unmarked anvil a 180 pound Mousehole and a 210 pound unmarked anvil. Three leg vises, 4",4 1/2" and a 4 3/4", I have a rivet forge and a large champion shop forge that isn't usable right now. I used coal mined right here in my county. I have my "shop" so to say set up in my barn. I make a point to forge everyday. I usually make 3 or 4 small hearts out of round stock. I have made a whole lot of these hearts and I have soaked them in vinegar to help remove the scale that I couldn't get off while the metal was at a orange heat. The vinegar ate all the scale Up and left a nice bright shine. My question is what do I use to keep that shiny finish on them? I would post a picture of My work but I don't know how! Any advice is greatly Appreciated
