Seems as though I'm guilty of all of the above.
When I go to the anvil I try to get all lined up correctly (and the metal gets cold), but before I'm through there is no telling which way I'll be positioned.
And thanks for the trick about the anvil height. I think that seems to be a problem for me. I've raised it once but I need to again.

Something similar happened to me. I wet my coal down that was on the table. Gave a crank and it exploded back into my blower. Glad I had a fire extinguisher handy. A lesson learned I guess.

So you need one for a squirrel bite! It didn't quite draw blood. But had a nasty bruise (I had gloves on so don't ask). I was thinking rabies, my wife said no blood no worry. I guess she was right. I'm still here.

This is my shop. Very primitive. My great-grandfather built it and was used as a blacksmith shop by him and my grandfather. Probably more for shoeing horses and making small things needed at the time.

The hood and stack, I really like that. Does it draw good?
I have a similar forge except no hood. Been trying to figure out how to fix one.

I agree with Finnr, don't take it apart.
In my opinion you don't need to fill it up with oil, it'll just run out.
I have one and early on was told they are meant to leak.
Just add a few drops of oil before you use it and a couple more during the day if you think about it.

Are you sure you want a concrete floor. They are very bad on the feet and knees.

I was at Peter Ross's and really enjoyed the demo.

Saw a bolt being forged the other day. A very interesting demonstration. I did a search but didn't see anything at first (quite a few threads with the word bolts in them). Just wondering if this is done very much.

Very, so I found out yesterday afternoon.
Had my fire going with coke left from last time I used it. Added some coal around the edges and sprinkled some water on it. I heard a slight pop. Looked around and flames were coming out of the hole of my Champion blower. The first thing I did (like a fool) was grab my water can. Water didn't work. Remembered the fire extinguisher by the door that I had hung there a couple of months ago. One short blast was all it took.

Some time ago I had started the forge and there was a very loud pop. That time it blew the hose off of the fire pot.

What causes this?
