The side that has less bulge can be forged on to lengthen it, and equal out. . .. .
And trust me, it doesn't take much to move it. You can spend all day chasing it back and forth, so hit once and check, rather than twice to find out you needed once. -
Maybe from here?

putting water on the anvil face each heat helps to keep a cleaner surface by blowing off scale.
I use this especially with welded tomahawks. The surface can be quite bad from the welding heats and the flux. forging on a wet anvil, paired with wire brushing before and after the anvil creates a clean surface in short order -
actually canola stands for Canada oil, low acid.

I know a guy off Eisenhower with a few Champion 400's for sale. I never went and cranked them, but they looked nice. I let him know if i give his number out, then i'll give it to you.

The reason why a piece bends when beveling one side is because the side of the piece being beveled wants to become longer, but the other side keeps the whole piece from lengthening, so that one side of lengthening steel has to go somewhere, therefore the whole piece bends.

For pattern developement in pattern welded steel. I know how a ladder pattern is made, and I am curious as to how you performed the material removal cleanly in clay. Care to share?

well, let's see. first of all, ya gotta understand i'm 18 years old, and a senior in high school. i work part time at a machine shop, and until recently i worked part time at a steak house as well. i've had steady blacksmithing business the entire 3 years i've been doing it, but i don't think i've come out very far ahead as far as money goes. it's still early. uhh, let's see. about the years ahead. they can go a few directions. i wanna work for myself eventually, do my own thing, but before that can happen i'll either go to tech school for machine tool technology, or find a professional blacksmith to work with. I gotta little collection of some nice pics of my better work, and will soon be calling people to talk.
