If it is an early PW, I believe that the name stamping should be on the opposite side from the weight stamping for what it's worth.

I think the swivel feature could be handy if the vise was mounted on the corner of the bench. In my mind (at least) it seems like it could be handy...

I'm betting that the mount is or was an after market item because I have the same type of mount on one of my vises and my vise doesn't look like yours.

If one still had the screw and box one could set it up to be adjustable by turning the screw and that'd even more cool...or just add more pivot points.

The flat/square shoulder on the screw box indicates to me at least that it probably didn't have a washer. The washer on the screw allows for all the movement needed.

Acme anvils are noted in AIA for not hiding the weld line which agrees with every Acme I've seen...

Gotcha, I didn't "see" them as set shoulders...

I just picked up a 315# Peter and the only markings left are the weight stampings and the "WR" of wrought. everything else is gone. The face of my anvil has almost a 1/4" of sway (mostly to one side) and plenty of gauges. I lightly wiped over it a few times with a worn out flap disk. Haven't used it much, but I don't think I'll be doing much more to it other than using it of course...

Are you trying to level it or make your anvil sits without wobbling? If the face of my anvil is even close to level it's purely by luck. When I set an anvil my eyeballs are my level and my biggest concern is does it wobble. And don't forget that there's no point in making the stand level if the face of your anvil isn't parallel to the bottom of your anvil. Wasted a lot of time once getting my stump perfect only to have the face be way off. That's when I realized I was over thinking it and stopped using a level.

I was guessing that the "putty knife" marks were from someone fixing a bad mold. Never would've guessed they were from post pour clean up. I saw (your) the Fisher display at ABANA and I was aware that they could be rough. At first I was a little disappointed with how rough it is. Then I saw how good the rebound is so I started to think of it as, Beauty and the Beast.

I haven't weighed anything so I can't say how much the stand weighs. I'm guessing it's around 50-75lbs as the pair feel a little heavier to move than my 198lb anvil.

I didn't bother with getting out a ruler but I'd say 90% or better over everything in front of the hardy.

I got this because of the stand and a decent asking price. Both the anvil and stand were covered in paint which gave it a nice look but i wanted to see what I had bought. I'm not really up on Fisher history but I do recall reading that the later Fishers could be pretty rough...my Fisher appears to have been made with a putty knife. The rebound is great over the entire face with the normal drop out on the heal. The corners/edges are about as clean as they can be so there's no question of it's useability. The only stamp I've found is the weight stamp on the foot. I figured someone out there might like seeing how ugly a really nice anvil can be.

Here is another pic of the mount and a pic of the stamp...I haven't (and probably won't anytime soon) mounted it to see how well the clamp holds/keeps it from spinning. Guess I could do a little test by throwing it in another post vise...

I picked the vise up today cause it was all there, in decent shape, and cause I liked the clamp on the mounting plate. I haven't loosened anything to test it but it sure looks as though it should let the vise swivel. there's a stamp on the top of the pivoting jaw, but I cant read it.

Looks like a Budden to me. The horn looks like the later 2 piece model. Whoever made it I'm a little jealous...

Not that you'll need to anytime soon but how do you get the anvil out of there? oh and that's a nice anvil you got there...
