I started with a 4" belt sander but after a while it was better to move to a 2x72 belt grinder as that is the industry standard and has a wide variety of belts for many different tasks. The knife looks good by the way!!

Try amazon they had a reasonable deal on brass bar and nickel silver that I recently ordered. Knifemakers.com also sells that stuff but they were sol out last I checked

I will be attempting my first chefs knife soon and after perusing the forums and stickies I've still got one question for those of you who have made astounding chefs knives. When forging the knife how close do you forge to the final thickness? I will be using a very basic 1090 steel for my first try at this my final thickness I am aiming for is around 1/8.

I would agree with Daniel the knife looks good just needs a little refinement on the gaurd to hadle fit

I leave some of the marks in the steel from the rasps and they come out very well just have to find the right quench medium for your perticular steel

Those look good keep up the work and I definitely hear you on the warming up part.

The first knife was made for a customer with wood donated from his late fathers wood shop the wood was dark walnut the blade is made from 1095 at 4.24 inches long with stainless gaurd, The second knife was made for my brother who wanted a survival/tactital type knife it was my first time making a knife like this as well as my first time making micarta scales but over all it came out well the blade is 4.75"long and also made of 1095 with brass gaurd and brass tube pins. As always critique away I love to hear from you guys!

They look very nice. I like the video as well it's interesting to see someone who is transitioning from looking for a specific style of knife to a smith who has found the style they like and begin to really perfect it and offer a model of knife. Keep it up!!

I must agree these are very nice, the copper is inspiring to say the least.

Here is a stag handled Hunter im working on it is in need of a sheath and sharpening but im a little stumped on how to get more out of the Moose shed that I was given to make it with the shed was pretty old and I told the client I would do my best but it isnt shining up well, I'm at 600 grit and i've tried some peroxide(3%) to bring out more white but to no avail.... :( any how, the Blade is W-1 at 3 3/4inches, stainless spacers and gaurd with pruple heart spacer in between. As always advice tips and tricks would be great!!!
