  1. Okay, thanks. I'll look into this. As for the bottom, its nailed to this stump with bent over rebar.  Seems to work well and I'll have to probably straighten them rather than pull them out. Anyway I'll get a pic of what the bottom looks like.

  2. Hello people! I'm about to list this anvil on kijiji and I was hoping to identify it first. The markings have been ground away. All I know is that its 100lbs. It may have come from England as well, but maybe not. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks so much

  3. Had some time today to fire it up again. Honestly, it tals about a half hour to run nice and hot, then adjusting the mix is less finicky. I took it up to three psi for the whole time. This is the resulting image, which seems to be a typical glowing out of focus pic of a bery hot forge. 4. Yes i did.  Its working nicely. Brought it up to a good temp and then ran out of gas. Life got in the way so i haven't filled up for a while. I'll try and remember  to post a pic of your typical hard to look inside forge heat when its started again. As with all burners it seems, you have to play with them a bit and find what works. I think once the forgehas ran a bit and gets nice and hot i end up adjusting it again. Not included in the pics, is a spirally paddle i added to improve turbulence and mixing.

  5. Thanks everyone.  I filled the tank, let it run. Moved it back and forth a couple tomes. Seems alright.   I just didnt want to ruin anything in a moment of haste so  i asked you people and slept on it. Its moving. Ill see if its working once i finish with the die assembly.

  6. I've already posted some progress of this press build. Everything is all hooked up and I'm searching online for advice on a system of some kind for filling it up with oil. Is there some procedure to follow  to make sure oil is everywhere it needs to be? Any advice or links would be appreciated.  Thanks fellas and ladies too

  7. I'm only chiming in not because I'm an expert but just through what might be dumb luck, I stumbled across a tripod equipped youtuber (fire creek forge) who just built something similar. He describes the same problem in his video. there is a little valve in the filter housing that broke off and ended up blocking the return line after the filter. He replaced it with a new filter and "housing"? that didnt have the little valve in the top like yours does.

  8. This is my gas forge. When i started sevenish years ago, this forum taught me anything i needed to know. Thanks a bunch everyone.  I have now finished my newest forge. Hopefully it lasts. Roughly 1 1/2" thick cast with 1" wool wrap for added measure. Measures 10" wide on the floor by 8 " tall by 14" deep. I made the ribbon burner as many others have. With my 27 hole (i beleive) at 5/16",  it has a 2" opening in which the air and fuel are stuffed. The gas orifice is 1/16". I have yet to fully bring it up to temp.

  9. No, that's catastrophic scenario. Guys, I appreciate any help I get. This is a super useful place to learn countless things from smart people. I'm not splashing around in a puddle with a wire hanging outta my....

The blower was from a pile of scrapped furnace equipment outside a neighboring shop. The motor that was on it was a 3600rpm.  I had an old barn fan with 5/16 shaft that fit the hole.  It was 1600 rpm.  That wasn't enough, meaning I had my regulator at maybe one psi to get the mixture right. It wouldn't have gotten hot enough to weld like this. Thanks I'll look into those. I met an HVAC guy on site today too!

  10. Fair. It's a LP gas forge.  With a fairly small ribbon burner. Everything I get is either reused or recovered from somewhere. Kijiji included. I was hoping to "scab" something together for free and see what I could come up with before I went and dropped $90-180 on store bought item. Generally this technique has worked for me so far but  there does eventually come a point when I move on and just buy one. When that happens it will be for a newly rebuilt forge. I recently started taking this whole forging and small business thing a bit more seriously now that it's been a hobby for 8 years.  I've only spent about six months in a working bs shop. All I can say is the blower I have wasn't enough at 1600 rpm.

  11. I havent. Its Sunday so I didn't bother. I browsed a couple product catalogues and did some internet searches for the model number and how it would typically be used. No luck yet. Figured I'd come here to ask for help.  It was of similar size to the one that was on the blower unit when I got it.its   0.12 A less than the one it had but 5000rpm instead of 3600

  12. Hello all,

I have this new motor for a blower I'm using.  The wiring harness attached has four wires. Red, black, green, and white. What might this suggest? Two speeds? If so how would or what would be the best way to go about getting it all together?

    Thanks a bunch

  13. Hello everybody oh, it's been a very long time since I've posted. I just wanted to have a share of my press progress so far. I opted for a 5 inch cylinder with a 12 inch stroke powered by + 11 + 3 gallon a minute pump. I have a 3 horse electric motor that runs on 220 to go with it. I've seen and heard mixed things about whether or not that much power will be adequate but I figure worst case scenario I buy a larger motor to get me up to 3000 psi instead of 2000. These are a couple pictures where I'm at. Just need to clean everything up and prepare it for welds.
