  1. That's funny you mention the dry rub ribs, my wife just ordered that the other day for dinner. lol. I think I might enjoy my pipe with my good rum. :) mmmmm
  2. So I was wondering if any of you have any fun traditions for your birthday that's blacksmith related. Seeing as how mine is coming up in a week I wanted to incorporate something fun/interesting to do. If it was up to me I'd either just forge or make an anvil shaped piñata and makeshift sledge hammer bat/stick....and after I break it coal would come out. :D
  3. Nanook I couldn't agree with you more. There so many levels of symbolism that are applicable to not only my life but especially my faith. Everything seems to reflect some aspect of the good Lord and blacksmithing seems to capture a certain glimpse that I enjoy reflecting upon often.
  4. Thanks Harris, I just responded to your other post too.
  5. That's what I love about this site...tons of helpful people with something to learn from every day. Thanks guys.
  6. dcraven glad you made it Dogsoldat sorry you didn't...as I read your post I could feel the burn. Hopefully it went to someone who really needed it, like a newbie(like me...lol)
  7. lol I'll need to practice my grunts. Although I did talk down the pawn shops price from $15 to $12 on another item I just got, but hey that's 3 bones I can throw somewhere else.
  8. I might need to cut it off though because end to end it's almost as tall as me 6'1.
  9. Local Pawn shop wants $15.00 for this tall wedge?? I was debating wether it could be turned into a hot cut hardy.... This is what it looks like, and let me know if you think I should get it.
  10. It's been online for a couple months. 5"jaw, 40.5"tall and kinda rusty. Guys asking $175, should I go for it?
  11. Yeah missed sales count. I hate when they leave the discount tags on the items even though the sale has been over for a couple days, then when you go to check out the person at the register is all "Oh sorry that was for that one sale we had, you have to pay the full price. I guessed someone missed EVERY TAG IN THE STORE when we were supposed to remove them". Good luck selling your knife. Maybe you should also list your phone number with your items so they can get ahold of you quicker.
  12. I just use a plastic zip tie....one single zip tie. :P (actually I'm getting ready to fasten my 300# with chains and other things, just want to get a new stump first. The one I've got looks like it's gonna split)
  13. Welcome to Tucson Jason, hope to meet you soon. Let me know if I can help you with anything.
  14. True True, and I'm sure leaving it so clean would be extra incentive to let you go at it again in the future.
  15. anaheim, I found two forges so far. One being the Orange County Blacksmith Guild and one other. I'm thinking about stopping in during one of the three day(monday-wednesday) if they're open, which I really hope they are because I won't be able to be around my anvil until next friday and I don't even know if I'll have time to practice. :(
  16. Thanks for the stories. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.
  17. Next week I finally get to use a couple days of my vacation time so me and the Mrs are going to Anaheim Calif. Anyone know what I could check out smith related while I'm in the area? I believe we're going to be by anaheim, maybe going to check out six flags as well. Thanks for any info.
  18. I know there's been threads about finding sweet deals and not being able to snag it due to lack of funds, I on the other hand had a construction company tell me I could keep the really long bars of what looked like stock. So I went back five minutes later only to find that the dump/recycle truck took ALL OF IT. >:( Oh well, I guess I'll just make sure I take it as soon as I get the green light. Anyone else have an aggravating story to relate?
  19. Hi all, glad to be part of this site. I'm all the way in Tucson, az Harold Hilborn recommended this site to me after my first lesson. I can't wait to post some pics and soak all this knowledge up.
  20. Great job, I actually just fired up my brake drum forge and did some work yesterday for the first time as well. It definitely feels great. Keep it up.
  21. I found a guy selling about 40 of them for $2.00 each, is that a good deal or should I talk him down. Thnx
  22. I'm in Tucson too,not far from the base. Just joined IFI and am currently taking lessons when I can with Harold from holy hammer iron works, cool guy. I also just finished paying off a 300# peter Wright, can't wait to get the rest of what I need so I can start forging in my own shop.
