Hi Ryan!!! Welcome. I have been made swords and armors for awhile when i was in italy!!! Which part of vegas are you from?
-
Thanks to everyone for the compliments!!!
@ Eddie: making a simple functional knife it's the task all knifemakers should apply for. Unfortunately, too many times, it's all about precious materials and fancy finishes... I often enjoy the pleasure of making a simple, cheap, really usable knife and, I think, it gives me a loooooot of satisfaction.
So: go on and try!!! You will enjoy!!! -
Thank you!!! I will try and ask at the plumber section then and If I won't find anything I will order. I'd rather shop in person but I can adapt myself...

Please, post your attempt, I believe I am not the only curious

Cool, thank you!!!

Dave, I would be more than happy to send it to you but it's in England now...Francesco, that looks like a sissy knife to me. You'd best just send it to me and I can destroy it for you :)
Very nice work. -
Very nice, much more eligant than anything I make. ^_^
Thank you!!! -
Yah, some people put cigarette filters or cardboard inside to burn the oxigen. So, you welded an austenitic inox with a carbon steel... Well, next step could be a damascus inox... You need only to find the right steels to get a good contrast and a good hardening!!!

This is something cool!!!

Hi fella,
This is another old project, I made it last year. My first mosaic damascus 02 and 15n20, deeply etched and mirror polished, blade 11 cm, oal 23 including bail. Ebony and mother of pearl handle with abalone inlays, brass liners, MA5M inox one piece back and spring. Brass bail. Back lock, it locks in both open and close positions. Thanks for looking :)

Frozenforge, you are right, the ad lasted less than two days... :(

I have enough tools to make a hilt, butt and pommel. I do need a grinder yet but I can meke it without. I just need a piece of stock to cut and shape. But everytime I search the web for something, it end out with a lot of frustration after hours and hours. I probably just don't know how to use a pc

Hi to everybody,
This is an old project, the blade was hardened more than one year ago and i was waiting my bro to make hilt and butt cap with lost wax tecnique but my bro is really layback (if it's the right word, I don't know) so when I moved from Italy the knife had no hilt yet.
The blade is 580 layer more or less, fully fileworked, quenched and tempered already, it only needs a good polishing and a guard and butt cap along with the handle that you can already see. Can anyone suggest where I can find bronze, brass or stainless steel to make a hilt/collar, butt cap and a little pommel?
Thanks for taking a look

In general I see meteoric blades made by flattening the material and then welding it to a core. That's beavuse meteoric metals have usually very specific patterns itself that is good to show. And because forging into flat shape eliminates a lot of inclusions.
I think you made a really good job on both projects. Do you mind me asking what steels did you use for the stainless san mai and if you use some kind of flux? I can't open the link you posted...
Thanks

I wish i could be able to forge shape so good... This knife is awesome

Thanks a lot!!! I would like to make another blade like that, provably in damascus but now I am so used to the warthog tooth sight that I don't know if I would be able do design a decent "normal" handle for it...
-
Totally agree. Plus, it is definitely better to stitch the leather instead if riveting. But the knife looks good
Nice shape and style. I like seeing the hint of file teeth. Lets folk know its origins. My only criticism I would have is in the sheath. It looks good, but have you worn it on a belt yet? Unless the blade is very much heavier than the handle, it seems it would be top heavy enough to shift far enough on its loop to let the knife slip out without a captive strap. -
I am drooling... Again...
