I"m happy, as long as it doesn't say Harbor Freight. Might try rubbing flour on it to see if more letters come out. Going to work on a Froe this weekend. Tried last weekend, was having a problem with making the eye. Should be easier with a horn and 130 more pounds under my hammer blows. Found a good demo on anvilfire for a froe.

I was excited to fine it, I'm trying to decide were on my workbench to put it. On my things to make list was some Moxon Bench Hook (planning stops).

The hammer is a wall hanger, might put a handle on it and hang it in the shop.

Lunch I was going to pick up a lathe, had a call just before I got there that it was sold. Said I could look around because everything need to go. Here is the junk I got for $20.00
The hammer head is 13 lbs.( between vise and garage springs) not sure what it was used for. The large plate is aluminum 1/2 think. and the saw is a thumb hole D8 or D-8 have to clean it up.

My 7 year old son had Friday off from school asked him what he wanted to do "Dad I want to forge" :D
He made hook for his aunt for Easter. This one he wanted a double twist. He also gave her a nail he made the other day.
I was able to finished a nail header for a friend and made another hammer handle. It was a good day.

I use to hate hacksaws until I pick up a real good blade. Now I use one all the time. Try a good Nicholson blade with a low tooth count. I have used cheap blades and have flatten the teeth in the first pass.
You could also use a angle grinder.

I use a Milwaukee port-a-band saw for most of my metal cutting. I clamp it in the post vise, I also add a table and foot switch. It works great.
This company makes some real nice stands for portable band saws

I really like the handle on the ball fuller, it looks so clean and tight. Great Job.

Had a mouse in the garage once, he used my band saw as a storage place for bird seeds, Turned on the saw and it started to rain bird seeds.

Thank you all for the information. Going to put a handle on it and give it a try.

Great video, I like all the little details he puts in the project. Like carving the wood to match the lathe head.

Brian,
Thanks for the information.
Using clay as and example is a great idea for teaching, you can really see what is happening when you cut it, and form shapes.
Looked you up on youtube I'm going to have hours of video to watch. :)
Thanks, Jacob

I'm just starting out, I have been working on nails. The problem I'm having is I'm hitting to soft when cutting, I was also using a hardy cut with a tip that was round and not sharp. So by the time I cut and twist the nail to break it off it's lost it's yellow and turns black. So it was hard to form a nice looking nail head. Pick up a new hardy cut this weekend that is sharp going to attempted some more nail soon.
I will have to pick up a brass hammer, have one for my hand planes but the handle is short.
Thanks, Jacob

Picked up a Hot cut hardy this past weekend, read that you should use a copper or brass mallet. I don't have a copper or brass mallet, but I do have a lead hammer would this be a good hammer for hot cuts or is it to soft?
Thanks, Jacob

Here is a real good manual put out by Nicholson on file type and use. Files are great tools but take some practices to use.
