  1. i have been reading on here a lot today and see a lot of you mention to not bother with water but quench in oil, i don't know anything about knife making keep in mind just curious because i know that some makers such as murray carter and bob kramar use water to quench, is this just for certain steels, skill level, or what factors? thanks

Thanks for the info guys will definitely do that for sure i am a hard worker and just want to learn, my main goal would be to be able to make stuff for my house and for work, i plan on having my own restaurant one day and itd be nice to be able to make things i need rather than buy them. Plus its an awesome skill to have.
  3. Hey guys im Jordan wanted to introduce myself here to the forum. Im a chef but have always loved knives and metal work. I have decided that i want to learn some blacksmithing and bladesmithing techniques and backgrounds. Have been doing a lot of reading and joining forums. Does anyone here know of anyone in the sarasota, bradenton, tampa, st pete, cleawater fl areas? Id love to be able to hook up with someone and get to learn first hand. thanks!
