Nice, I may have to try that..... with your permission of course.
go for it and let me know how it works for you. -
Nice work, May I ask if you used a chain break to stack the metal or what your method was to weld. Thanks in advance.
Newbie09 I cut the chain in approx 6" pieces and laid them side by side. Then threaded steel cable through the sproket holes to fill in the space. (first time I tried with out that I could not get it to weld and the chain fell apart) Not sure what a chain break is. Educate me on that please William -
Beatiful work Fe-Wood, I like the cobination of wood and metal.

I used two pieces of 2x4's and hammered on them then used a flatner to form the sides. Had a fan going while using the 2x4's they smoked a lot but it worked.

Very nice work, I like the cap on it also.

So, you built a little coffer dam around the antler and poured the pewter, then trimmed it off close to the antler?
Bentiron, I made the dame out of masking tape (several layers). If you do it right not much trimming to do. Just polish the top and edges. If you are in the Cottonwood area give me a shout I am not that far north from you. -
Yes the handle is elk antler and the bolster is cast pewter (cast in place). I did not use a press it is hammered.

I am looking for a post I saw approx. 6 months to a year ago where the gentleman made roses two pettals at a time as apossed to cutting out the five pettal pattern. I had it saved to my hard drive to try later but lost it. I have tried searching but have not found this paticular design. Can any one help me? Thanks William

turning damascus
in Lathes
Posted
I have an atlas lathe I picked up in a trade (along with lessons on the basic use of a lathe) . My question is what type of drill bit would you use to bore 1/4" hole approx 3 inches deep in damascus? When I drill holes for handles I use a paddle drill bit but it is not long enough to do what I am looking to accomplish. Thanks William
