No ideas on when WT & F was in business?

I have mine linned with 3 parts sand and 1 part portland cement if you are talking about a portable forge like the ones that say "clay before use".   I tried kitty litter but it didn't last long.  One or two forge sessions at the most and it started to crumble.

Good idea having so it can be clamped to a work table.

I agree.  Part of the face plate has broken off.  I have one just like it, only broke through the hardy hole.  I used mine for years untill I got something better.  At least the hardy is still useable on this one.

Yes, I like the tripod mount also.  Good idea on the design.  The trade off is anything that moves will also move when you don't want it to. Thanks for posting the pictures

Picked up a new to me WT & F Co, 4" Post Vise off off CL.  It seems to be in pretty good condition.  The threads looks good and the jaws close tight.  I was happy to get it for $75.  It is for sure it is in better shape than the one I have which has a replacement screw box.  For curosity sake, about what years were these made?

Wow! That was inspiring and embarrassing at the same time.. I may never complain about not having good tools again and I feel bad about the electric metal shears I bought last year.

Thank you very much. I've never heard of brazing tongs. Now I have something new to search for in the archives. These came up at a local auction. I had to get them if just for curosity sake.

Maybe a dumb question but why would you need jaws like this on tongs.  The jaws are massive in comparison to the reins.  Or do I need to get out more?

Thanks for the quick reply.  Have you seen a post vise with a opening that a square nut would fit in?  That's not a typical shape to me.

Thought I would get some opinions about this vise.  Is is blacksmith made?  or some sort of field repair? for a complety broken jaw?  I thought a blacksmith replacment of one jaw but the good jaw seems to be made for a square nut rather than a standard jaw screw.   

Any comments are welcome.

I parked very close to a RR track a couple of weeks ago.  As I walked near to the track, I noticed several dozen spikes laying on the ground.  I could have picked them all up in just a few minutes but they were rather rusty and some were bent leading me to believe the RR was planning on coming back to get them. :D

$2.00 seems high to me but then again I like to take walks from time to time.  If I lived in the city and didn't have a good place to walk, $2.00 might be ok.

Thanks for your service.  I see from previous post you are in Indiana.  As Rich suggested, post your location.  Maybe someone can help.  Try some local antique shops.  Most larger places will have at least one or two man booths.  Some are treasure troves for old blacksmithing tools.

Hi Tim,  You need to make a mold cherry.  I haven't made one but I build blackpowder rifles and know several guys that have. These are some original ones posted on a gun builder site.  If you drop by the attached website there's a little more information.  Hope that helps some.

Here's what I ended up with after a little clean up, wheel addition, and bolt replacements. She's ready to add a linning and fire up.

These folks are in Jasper, GA. Maybe a couple of hours North of E. Atlanta. Easily a round trip in a day.

Never seen one like that myself but it is very cool. Does it mount to the floor like you have it setting? or underneath something. Nice find regardless. Thanks for posting the pics.
