  1. cutoff tools must be set as short as possible to get the job done, even then i find mine chatter alot. I will only plunge cut with them as i dont want to break them off. Pulley looks great!

  2. If you honestly didnt have any problems with it and sold it in good working condition then it must be something he did to it to make it that way, i would not give a refund. I also agree that 3 weeks is quite a wile and you did tell him when he bought it that warranty is covered through microsoft and not you. You are not a retail store or microsoft, i would personally expect that it was a buy as is item and that is how i would treat it.

  3. The glass is held in with some 3/4"x1/8"x1" tabs rounded off on the belt sander and then i fitted a rubber cap on them with some heat to make the rubber conform. Then I drilled the bars and tabs and used machine screws to apply tension. I also used clear art type glue to help secure the leaves and birds, it was used sparingly and is hardly noticeable from the "backside".

  4. Here is a project i completed for my grandmother, its not really blacksmithing but i couldnt decide a different place to put it. I just found the picture and thought you might like to see it. The vertical bars are all twisted hot rolled which was done cold the frame is just 1.5"x1/4" There are two pieces of glass to sandwich the leaves and birds. I made the birds from feathers glued to cardboard cutouts. This fits into an opening next to her stairwell and was intended to block the cat from getting downstairs and be decorational as well.

  5. I dont know if it works on anvils or not but on alot of things a person drills a hole at each end of the crack it will stop. The problem i see with an anvil is you are dealing with a 3 dimensional crack and you wont be able to follow the crack end with the drill bit. I dont know how you would fix it but it would be good information to know.

  6. Well was on anvilfire and decided tonight i would make one of those Tennesse Trolls. All in all for my first one it turned out great. There are a few things i will do differently next time. My eye punch didnt have enough of a recess to work well so it has sunken pupils and i should have made the details like the robe deeper. Anyways here are some pictures of the final project. It was a fun little project and i would suggest it to anyone wanting something to do, only problem now is that was my last spike!

  7. I worked some iron tonight and did just that frosty, I was at an angle most of the night and also built my fire a bit deeper as i wanted to do more spot heating to work areas of the project instead of the whole thing. The combination of the two worked great.

I think that halogen i have is more of a flood light so maybe thats why i think it works so well, its one of those yellow construction lights hung from a board on the rafters so i can move it wherever i want.

  8. ATTA boy! Electricity is a wonderful thing in the shop. Now you can start gathering up those big toys, ahem, TOOLS you NEED. ;)
You may want to reconsider the spot light on the anvil. IMO, too much bright light and you can't tell the color of the steel on the anvil.

Ahh i forgot to mention the big toys, they were sitting outside the shop when i took that picture, i have a 50lb trip hammer, drill press, and pedastal grinder to start with for now, i have to get my line shaft in and going before i worry about them to much tho.
