Can you torch cut cast iron? and if not, how does industry handle cutting cast?
-
hey mike, are you having problems with your die bolts working lose? I dont know if need to replace mine or what but it seems every five minutes im retighting the dies... any ideas?
-Andrei -
The rule of thumb is 15 minutes of soak time per 1" of steel at - temp.
-
To the guys that use a Henrob, do you think its necessary to have a normal oxy/acet rig if you buy the henrob as well? What kinds of things do you still use your old torch for?
-
kinda on the same topic, mig gel can be used in forging dies if you dont have never seize to keep things from sticking.

haha, thats good tyler

Browns gas is the same as Klines gas is the same as HHO gas, every 10 or 20 years another scam artist come along and puts his name on it and sells it as brand new state of the art tech, Water powered torches have been around for 100 years, why dont people use them? They take tons of electricity and are not as hot as a O/A torch

The finish is several coats of enamel spray paint, If I do more like this, im gonna swich to powder coating.
Thanks for the A+ Stan , A/O is a modern method? They used gas torches in the 1850's... and arc welding goes back awile too... I think craftsmen put too much thought into only using certain tools or methods of construction. Just like your sig says you gotta do it with whatever you have to work with, not what some teacher says is historically correct.

i bought a spool gun with my welder, havn't had a chance to use it yet because i dont have a second tank...
-
i always thought welding in a coal fire was much faster and easy'er than in a gas forge.
-
Thats some great info guys , thanks alot.
I guess its another tank with pure argon for me :) -
Good for you metalliferous , but only a hour an a half???? Thats a life time for a demo.
Iv been doing demos for 3rd 4th and 5th graders at a museum and I get 10 minutes with them. You want a tip, If you cant captivate a 4th grader in 10 minutes then you wont in 90 minutes ;) -
I need to weld a piece of Al but all I have now is 25% co2 argon mix , what will happen if I use this ? do i need pure argon?

Why cant you buy coke Dan?
-
an alternate option is to go the route i was forced to and use a scrubber i have used mine for about a year and have had no problems
scrubber
Iv seen small and large size scrubbers in action (small as in cleaning a hole buildings air), and i think its a bit more complex than a 55gal drum filled with water. -
Dan, try to find some high grade Coke, coke doesn't give off smoke and makes very little or no ash and clinker.
I worked with a coal forge in the middle of Kenmore (a very dense village) , my neighbors were so close I could here them sneeze. Anyway, I forged there for a couple years and never had one question. Just don't go telling everyone what your doing in that garage... or you could open up a can of worms. And beware, most small towns and villages have a noise ordinance, I know in kenmore it kicked in at 10pm and started at like 9am. -
Mig welding is pretty fun, huh chris?

Sorry i had to jump in here, i just got back from a demo at a local history museums blacksmith shop, two tours of 4th graders, in teh first tour i ask teh croud if they knew what blacksmiths did.... a kid raised his hand and said "they make all the weapons and swords....." and on he went. in the second tour, a cute little girl ask me if i had ever seen the movie Pirates of the Caribbean "because there was a cool scene when the aprentice jackwhatever goes into a blacksmith shop and starts fighting with johnny depp and it was really cool... i wanted to throw my hammer at her right then. ok i'll stop now

this is one way of dishing,
