  1. Thanks guys, I haven't been online since last year, and I'm living in East Auckland. I doubt I will be able to forge here as the garden is tiny and there is so much wood around. However I might be able to do some forging in the upcoming school holidays if I can find a nearby smithy. Thanks again for the help :)
  2. I'm going there to see it early next year(possibly this december. My main worry is wether or not coal forges are allowed. I have a light, portable one that still gets up to welding heat, but if I'm not allowed to use it, it wouldn't be worth taking it. I do find the odd four-leafed clover Jordan
  3. Hi Guys I am currently living in South Africa, but we are thinking of immigrating to New Zealand. I heard that NZ and Australia have a lot of rules and regulations about open fires. I am reluctant to get a gas forge as they are expensive and costly to run. Can anyone tell me about the laws on open fires? Things like what conditions they are allowed in, where they are allowed, and if special precautions must be taken for a fire to be legal. I think we are going to live near Manukau, if that helps. Any help is appreciated Jordan
  4. Is this my friend with the 4 power hammers?

  5. Hi Johanvn I don't have any experience using RR track, but everyonr I know tells me that it is very hard, a lot of people use it for an anvil, there is very little wear on theses RR anvils. I don't know about a tomahawk, but you should try asking Wim van Dijk, Paul Mikula or Coenraad Vegter. Jordan PS: You owe me 2 cents :)
  6. I think we should change your name to "Shrewd" :)
  7. Hi guys I have smithing for a while but have to pack up every tool, piece of steel and other object I use. This includes a 150kg (240lb)anvil! I would like to build my own smithy but want to get a basic design before I get official plans from an architect. I have come come uo with a basic plan: the smithy will be a half circle with straight walls extending from the ends of the hemicircle(new word?), With the main forge's centre on the same line as the half circles edges. I have attached a rough(very rough) plan of the smithy. Any help is appreciated Thanks Jordan.
