Derrick Phallon out of St George Utah sent me several pictures of a stairecase that he is building. Derick purchased an Anyang 33 lb last November. The starecase will have a maple rail top. Great example of the type of work that can be done with a small hammer. One of the most amazing things is Derick is a one man shop (altough he has help on installation).

I don't mean to start an big debate but my Audels manual recommends 135 deg for drilling hard steel and alloys. What brought it to my attention was that I just bought a titanium nitride coated drill in an extended length. When I opened the package I noticed that the included angle was marked as 135 deg.

Checking Audels Machine shop manual it recommeds 118 for general purpose and 135 for hard steel. I know that all my cobalt drills are at 135 deg.

Go to a flint knapper site to find out how to drive a flake off. Try paleoplanet through a google search and there should be some info there and also where to buy or find flint/chert

I would also like to share today's find. Was at The Home Despot picking up some cutoff wheels for my angle grinder last night. Decided to go over to the Tool Rental Counter. I wanted to inquire about used jack hammer bits. The gentleman behind the counter said that they usually just throw them away.... But that I could leave my contact information and the department head would give me a buzz in the am. I got the call at 15.00 hrs and was told that I could come by a pick up a whole five gallon bucket full of the little buggers. Pics cause it did happen!

I've got about 2 gallons of used 50/50 Miriatic Acid and Water I need to exchange for new. I've been using it to clean Copper and it has lost most of its cleaning power and now deposits a red oxide on the surface. I'm assuming the red came from the steel tongs I was using to handle the Copper until I made some Stainless ones.

Any suggestions? The liquid is Very Green and I'm sure toxic.

The type of tooling you would use is dependent on the material. HSS will work on most steel in the soft form, carbide for hard and tough alloys. HSS can be ground to a sharper tool. We never went finer than a 60 grit wheel for grinding them, less heat problems and faster stock removal. The best holder by far is the Aloris equivalent quick-change post and holder. You can set up a few different tools on advance and just do a quick change. Hope it helps a little

if when you say tenths you mean tenths of .001 not tenths of an inch
