Yup, I was going to dress up the horn on my 140 lb PW. Thankfully I didn't I was moving some steel in and caught the blunted horn in the middle of my thigh. Softball sized bruise and plenty of unpleasant words. I have bumbed into the same place about 3 times now, so no dressing of the horn for me:D

WOW! That is beautifully simplistic! I love it!

RR Spike knives for the men, RR roses for the women Cheap and fun:o

I move around the anvil as I work and having three anvils at different orientations only a few steps away from the forge makes it real easy to find a comfortable position to work.

I made a throwing hawk from a RR spike a few days ago, turned out pretty well except I got the drift a little off center. It would have been functional, it just didn't look "right", my oldest boy claimed it. I will probably do another one in the next few days just for giggles.
Thanks

HWooldridge, ahhhh you are making me envious. Must have more tools.... Hmmm, off to the fleamarket:)

I have 4 anvils and I use each one for different things. My 287 lb Peter Wright is my workhorse and sees the most use. I have a 140 lb Peter Wright that I use for smaller items. I have a 90 lb Mousehole that I use for fine work and I also have a small RR Anvil that I would use for really small stuff (Haven't yet, but it doesn't eat anything ;-) I also have another very old Mousehole that is about 90 lbs, that I simply muse over where its life has taken it.
As for the perfect shop, there is no such thing, at one time I had a 30 X 80 shop and it was just to small I now have a 40 x 40 shop and I make do, but it is all about compromise. I have quite a bit of wood working equipment that gets put away (stacked in a corner) till I have need of.
Thanks

Amen! I also have seen these types of shenanigans and it really burns me up. I am a sucker for a bargain, but ripping people off should have dire consequences. I am sure that on the day of reckoning everyone will attone for their sins, but sometimes it needs to be speeded up a little.

I haven't ordered tongs from Glenn, but I have talked with him and seen some examples of his work. Super nice guy and his tongs look to be fine examples of craftsmanship. Check out eBay My World - g.s.peen

Possibly a stupid question... Is there a field expedient method for identifying Wrought Iron? The reason is that at my local scrap yard there is what appears to be the better part of an old old bridge span. I suspect that it probably is Wrought Iron, but I am not sure...
Thanks

Sam, that looks really good! I know that you will have many happy hours in front of it through the years.

I did a painful funny a month or so ago. I just had a small piece that needed welding and the perfectionist in me kept intruding. So I wound up grinding it down and rewelding three times. Oh did I forget to mention that I was shirtless... needless to say I had a pretty good sunburn on my belly and most annoyingly in my belly button. Note to self, ALWAYS wear appropriate clothing even when only welding a short bead.

Wrought Iron? Nice find!

I really like the tire hammer and have been collecting the misc stuff to piece it together. Check out the Costa Rica Power Hammer ( Ithink it was CR?)

I agree with Kevin, JB Weld is just the ticket!

The dumbest one yet, I was taking a finishing cut on the lathe after numerous heavy cuts... I was admiring the mirror-like finish and you guessed, I had to touch it... Regained feeling in my fingertips a few months later, you can bet I'll never do that one again!!:D
