  1. ThomasPowers, I agree with you on the fact that a lot of them are homemade and like you said I would rather buy a "newer" blower. But im in college and I don't have a lot of money, so I think I might buy this anyways and plus it is a huge upgrade from my brake drum forge. It is so hard to work with this forge, I rarely use it, I usually use my propane forge.
  2. Ya thats what I have seen, The prices for those Champions start getting high. But I think I will offer him that and I'll let yall know how it turned out and I'll post some pics if I get it.
  3. I don't have exact measurments but it is approx 2 feet wide and about 2.5 feet in length, its the shape of a wheel barrow. It reminded me of like a small childs play wheelbarrow, but not as deep. The fire pot is about a 8in circle. I was thinking of offering him $250 or $300 for it, then do some work for him on the side.
  4. Very nice, I am going to try this soon. So its just 3/8 round stock and then on the end you made a russian rose? Also i have been brass brushing some other roses lately, but they don't turn out this deep in color. Do you have any suggestions on how I van obtain that deep bronze color?
  5. Thats a good idea, I have made many russian roses, and like you said the bottom always looks goofy. I did something very simialr to your idea. But i used some 20ga sheet metal. Im very picky about what the end product looks like, so thats why i used the sheet metal, so the color would be the same.
  6. Very nice for the first one, I have made several and still are not that nice. What gauge sheet metal did you use? I have been using 18ga.
  7. I just met this older gentleman, with him knowing that I blacksmith, He offered to sell me his forge. It is a coal forge, it stands about 3.5 feet high. The inside of it has concrete in it and it tapers down to the center where the coal goes. It looks like it was possiable a homemade job, but it is very old. He has a electric blower on it, I didn't see any writing or a name on it. Then also he has a Champion Model 40 Lancaster hand crank blower that can be attached. It seemed to work fairly well, it made a loud scratching type noise when I turned it, but it hasn't been oiled in years. So what I want to find out is, How much is something like this worth. He said he didn't want to sell it to me until I could figure out a price. I know that it is hard to say without having pictures, but a ball park figure would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Ok sounds good yall thanks for the help.
  9. Danger Dillon, Can you tell me a little more about the meeting? That sounds very interesting and I would love to attend. Jreed, Thanks for the pics you put up. I am going to do something like you did. I will post some pics of it when I get done with mine. It will probaly be next week before I can work on it though. Is the brake drum just sitting in the hole? Also does the coal coke up pretty good on the outside? Thanks Yall
  10. Thanks for welcoming me in. This website is very interesting and I have learned a lot from here. Thanks I looked at the Blueprint 55 and it is very similar to what I was talking about. Did you use the barrel idea from the blueprint? Also what were your modifications to it. I am in Columbus, Georgia. I know a few people in phenix city. I am part of the AFC. We meet every 4th saturday, I can talk to a few of them next time I go. But I was just seeing what anyone else thought.
  11. I have a brake drum that I made into a forge. It works fine but I was thinking about attaching it on some type of a table, so that my green coal will turn into coke. My idea was to sit the brake drum down into a washer machine lid. Do yall think this will work? I just wasn't sure if the lid would support the drum or if it was too thin. Do yall have any suggestions?
