  1. hmmmm, i like the sound of the mokume pendant. if you could direct me to some instructions for the one piece roses, im gonna try and search them but my tech skills are even worse than my present-coming-up-with skills lol rthibeau, that is something i have thought about many a time, but i fear she would kill me for that XD so i found what they call bottle cap roses. i have pleanty of caps (i am a fan of the Fallout games, so collect caps) and i could probably solder them to some brass rod i have and then twist the rod together to make a bouquet. what do yall think?
  2. actually i do have some diamonds lying around, just never could figure the right way to mount them
  3. lol i dont think she would appreciate that much. i had made her a heart in the Brian Brazeal style a few weeks ago. not remembering that valentines was just around the corner i went ahead and gave it to her....stupid me should have waited because she loved that :/
  4. hey guys. i need ideas/ pictures to go with said ideas of things that i can make my girlfriend for valentines day. they need to be simple because i have limited forge setup and not a whole lot of blacksmithing experiance ( i do mostly blades). i have serched roses on here and all the ones i find need to be welded and i dont have a welder. any suggestions or other ideas would be most appreciated. thanks
  5. well if your everdown this way hit me up, i would be more than happy to show you some tips and tricks
  6. took me about 5 hours total over two days, not exactly shure so thats just a round about compleation time. the metal is an old farriers rasp.
  7. Hey guys havnt posted my work in a while but here is something i finished today
  8. Personally, i would get it. especially because idid not have an anvil with a horn for a while and never realised how useful one was until i got one. Even with a damaged face, a second anvil (especially one with with a horn) is worth it. and it dont seem to be too bad of a price. of course i am an ametuer, so let some of the other guys chime in before you make a desicion. -Joe
  9. Hmm, interesting. we will have to look into that. thanks
  10. Tom- He told me he was gonna use wood. The edges for the scrapers are hard enugh that a file barely cuts into them after i tempered them. Is this too hard? Thomas- I was thinking the same thing. He told me wood, but i will pass on those thoughts to him.
  11. Thanks, i relly didnt know they scale they should have been. but now i should be able to do it better! thanks again
  12. i made these for a friend of mine who is into doing stuff "old school" like i am. they are going to be used to make a medieval style comb for one of his friends birthdays. not exactly sure what these tools would have been called but they are used to scrape out the teeth on said comb. questions, comment, and helpful critisism welcome.
  13. First succesful spear head. it looks a little rough but that is ok to me because it was really just an experiment to see if i could do it. Stormcrows bush sword videos really inspired me. after watrching them this afternoon i immediatly set out to make a spearhead. and well here is a few hours labour. as always, questions and helpful comments and critisim welcome :)
  14. Have you ever smithed at all before. if not i would not suggest starting with anything close to a sword. do general blacksmithing to get to know the way metal moves and the techniques used to do so. if you have, start with small knives and such. being a newbie to swords can be dangerous to you and the people around you. they take alot more patience and skill to make than any other blades.
  15. so i tried it. turned out pretty good i guess. i didnt delute....probably should have done that, but this was a test piece. i will post pictures when i take them.
  16. i was going to try it on some of that wrought iron i picked up. yeah they drilled that safty procedure into us in high school.
  17. so i have a jug of sulphuric acid (aka. battery acid) can i use this to etch metal? i have heard about all of these specialty acids and i am wondering if it would be cheaper and more easily accesible this way if it will etch. thanks for any replies
  18. they were tickled pink. i first started making this into a double edge but i changed my mind halfway through. i do belive it turned out pretty well as well.
  19. blade for my first real customer
  20. Thanks for the info. I picked these up on a trail where a VERY old train track used to run. it is now a paved path for walking. i had heard that wrought iron would delaminate, i just didnt think about that these spikes were maybe wrought. And now that i think of it, it moved alot easier under the hammer than most other steels that i worked with. thanks for the help and info on clearing this up for me.
  21. i was forging a knife out of a railroad spike and as i was working it i noticed striations in the metal. they would split off kinda like failed welds in pattern welded steel. i am just curious as to what may have caused this. they were there before i started because i took took a wire wheel to the rust, and the lines were revealed as the rust was taken off, so i dont belive that it was me. of course i could be wrong, but i would like to know what caused this.
