In know this is kind of a stupid question but what's the best way for me to bring a rod to a point an make a pick out of it? I have a book that tells how but its hard to under stand.

Well as it would happen to day i went an got it... An an hour later i was given a free brand spanken new ball peen hammer. WOOT what a day what a day. i dont feel so bad buying xxxx thing after the hammer if i get to use it well good if not i can just tell my self the $4 went to the hammer. oh and the handle is made by wells brothers company. you guys know if there any good? it's xxxxxxx heavy duty i can tell ya that.

I know $4 dollars is not really expensive but i have very little cash to spend on my new hobby an need to get all i can for what i got. so i like to ask you guys what you think so im wasting the cash i can spend on it. but im going to go get in tomorrow an hopefully it will come in handy for me :)

Ya it has the handal an as I can tell its in good shape as far as I can tell. how hard is it to finde dies for these? Can u get them new?

found a threading die at a shop today and the guy wants $4 for it. i know that's not much but i don't no if it's worth it... it seamed like it was in ok shape as far as i know but that doesn't say much about things like that. An the other thing is should it have different sizes attachments for the middle. all it had was a 5/8th. would you guys get it?

Well thank you very much guys .. Appreciate all the feed back all very helpful. I do have two smaller hammers an a 5lb so i guess i will stick with that for now. Man i could not image spending $100 on a hammer. I hope i get good enough some day that i will have a need for one.

sounds good... I just want to buy every thing i can ... it's driven me mad. I cant wait till i get to the point were i can make my own tools.

oh an there were tongs for $8 about 2ft long... is that good?

I am starting to buy more tools for smithing. I only have 2 hammers atm so im looking for more. im very new to this an don't really know how to make my own. What i need to know is how much should i be paying for a good hammer? I found a few at a antique shop today... a large arrow shaped chisel and large rectangle one both around 2 lb's. they were $12 each. i just don't know how much i should be spending on this stuff. don't have much cash so i would like to get all i can for what i got. any one know a good site i can compare prices or something like that. any info would help. thank you.

So i made a forge the other day. I am using a blow dryer for the air an it not going to be enough i can tell all ready. So I'm wondering if any of you have plans for a home made bellow or something i can buy for very cheep. Any info would help. Thank you.

Sweet... thank you sounds good. Should have it up an running by Sunday. Im really pumped. It will be the first "real" forge i have tried smithing in.

i have another question how much should i fill that when I'm using it? I'm going to be using home made charcoal.Oh an whats the best way to lite it?

Wow i like it.. I am very new to smithing and have tried make a few differnt forges in the last few weeks. This one looks like one i could do and not have to spend money. also looks like it would work great. hope you dont mind me using your idea. thank you :)
