  1. thanks for the link to the guy in Austell. I recently purchased a 80 lb fisher. I am looking to purchase another anvil in the future tho so I will keep him in mind. He is only 2-2 & a half hours away from me, and since I drove to Nasheville, Tn. to buy the fisher (4 and a half hours) I can reason myself to go 2 hours if he has fair prices. Thanks again. If Anyone knows where to find a fairly cheap belt sander that would also be much appreciated. Looking for a 72' but I could settle for a little bit smaller.
  2. WOW!!!! thanks for posting this, this is a inspiring piece here. i hope to someday be able to make a beautiful knife like this
  3. Lol i would have to agree, it seems that your anvils are mating and forging smaller baby anvils or they really do grow on trees...dang i wish i had an anvil tree..lol nice collection there im jealous
  4. ahhh thats an interesting fact, it is an optical illusion, it does seem like its an inch or so but im sure u are right i believe ya
  5. wow, lots of nice anvils there. I would purchase one but i just bought my first so im recovering from the dent in my pocket there. where are you located, just in case one day i decide i need a big anvil?
  6. well after some good cleaning i got all the paint BS off of the anvil. it looks completely different now, built an amazing anvil stand today, and did a bearing test. Once i cleaned it up i could clearly see a 1 and a half inch steel plate that was cast on top. I will post photos soon of the anvil and the stand. Also I purchased a Diamondback Bladesmith forge. (Helps when your brother is starting too, $$$$$ much easier to come up with between 2 people) Thanks for all the tips,
  7. ok, im gonnna do a bearing test asap. so if it bounces high its suppose to be good?
  8. well i did a hammer test on it, and it was a deaf type sound, just like i read in some reviews, i did hit it a few times, just not major beating, it looked good to me and sounded good so i thought it was a good buy, how do i do the steel plate check?
  9. HAHAHAHAHAHAAH OMG! this is to funny.... I just purchased this exact anvil! lol it weighs 80 lbs and i think it is an absolute beauty
  10. oooooh nice deals there. i like how you can buy the 1/4 pints of ITC. Also like that they have pre made burners/kits and the insulator. Thanks for the link.I have 1 ? though. If i were to build a forge out of a 20 gallon propane tank or a small air tank how much insulator would i need, what thickness, and how many layers so that it will hold up to forge welding temps?
  11. thanks for the offers everyone, i just purchased a 100lb fisher
  12. ya its a pretty contageous disease....why i havent even bought my first anvil yet because im just now starting to blacksmith and look for one....and i stay up constantly looking at anvils, knives, and blacksmith art....its starting to consume my life, but i enjoy it, for a 23 yr old i think its pretty good for me. keeps my mind busy and keeps me busy, and most of all you meet great people.I cant wait to get my very own first anvil and go hammer crazy.im like most of you...you can never have enough anvils :D
  13. Just in case anyone is still looking in this thread I am still searching for an anvil.I am going to attempt to make it to the Graham, NC auction if I can not find one by then, only bad side is I live roughly 4-5 hours away and it starts at 8:30 a.m. So if you know of anyone selling a anvil or of anymore auctions within 2-3 hours from Blairsville,GA please pass that information along and it will be much appreciated. Thanks again everyone. I LOVE THIS SITE AND THE WORK OF THE BLACKSMITHS!
  14. ya i've looked all through those threads and all that are around me have been removed, all but the super clean fisher in tenn. i emailed the guy and got no response yet. I hope to find a descent one at a reasonable price. im biting at the bit to get some forging in lol. But i still have to buy/build my forge...just a work in progress gathering all the needed supplies, but im NOT giving up, im gonna continue my search!

  18. I am located in Blairsville. Just a little further north than ellijay and blue ridge. That would be awesome. I am starting with my brother so ill ask him what route he wants to go with the forge, but cheaper is better and that would help a lot if i could focus more money on a nice anvil
  19. thanks for the tips guys. where would i go about finding this insulation and what is it called? i did some searching online but everything i saw was very expensive.perhaps you guys know of a place that sells it
  20. Hello, first off let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Brian and I am a beginner blacksmith trying to accumulate the tools needed for a beginner. I Need a anvil and a forge mostly, maybe a few sets of tongs as well. If you know of anywhere in Georgia that I could locate these items it would be very helpful. I am planning on buying a pre-made gas forge, I know I could build one cheaper but I do not have a welder. So if u have a propane forge or can build one or know of anvil please post some pictures along with location and price please. Thanks everyone for all your help! This site is very influential and shows the true quality of a knife.
  21. Hi I am new to blacksmithing, but i am in the process of getting my first anvil and forge and was wondering just as a beginner what type of tongs to get and what hammers to get. Wanting to get a couple of each to start. Thanks
