  1. Looks like a usefull addition for bashing and bending..........I have drawn an attachment that could prove usefull........Basicly it's a pair of non paralell bars conected at the ends of say 1.5'' round and would have pegs to drop into opposing hole in your plate for curving and straitening. The taper is usefull for accomodating things like twists in bars where you don't want to mess up the flutes when truing them up....just a thought.

  2. Hey Dabb, that home made ANVIL shows you have the FIRE in your belly to learn and you won't let the lack of a 'real' anvil stop you. I remember your posts about trying to acquire an anvil that was too dear for your pocket. If I was your Dad I'd be proud you went ahead solved the problem on your own instead of sniveling about how you can't, because you can, and THAT is worth a shipload of 'real' anvils................ Factory made machines come equipped with them to save you from yourself. Don't take them off.

No, actually they don't in many cases.........The image shown is exactly how Grizzly ships it.

These are among the most dangerous tools in in my shop and they get my full attention and respect when I use them. All the guards in the world can't make up an operator who doesn't know what the heck he's doing and I don't mean you Tran.

  4. I liked working on mine better than my track anvil. Just re shaped the horn some.

For me the problem was as Tom said, the face would dent while working hot A36. The horn was not the problem.........Personally I'd take a chunk of RRT over the ASO any day and have given away several chunks to noobs just starting out, it's tough stuff..........

  5. When I took mine out years ago it took two swipes with an 8 pounder, one fore and one aft, these boys get pretty strung out about it.......I believe my 165# Peddinghaus could survive such a smattering of abuse but it certainly would have some damage.......The video is pretty mindless in it's entierty but I understand how they felt about the thing. If one of these asos were to darken my doorway again I'd give it away to some noob who could get some use out of it, after all they're still better than working hot metal on a rock.....I guess........

  6. In my opinion a power hammer shold not be near in scale to what you can swing with your arm, it should take you into another realm and beyond. Making a minature PH requires as much planing, fabrication and skill as making one (aside from the cost of steel) that will handle 1'' sq+ without any problem. Go bigger, you'll be glad you did.

  7. The  above mentioned ''filter/mufflers'' don't do either function well at all. I added up all the little 3/32''+- holes once in one of those things and calculated their area. The results amounted to a 25 to 30% restriction if I remember correctly and that imo isn't something I'd want to do to my rig.

I'd get a REAL cfm rated intake filter and either rout the exaust outside or into bucket where it can catch oil as well instead of blasting it into the work area.

  8. ''You've got to spend money to make money.''  I agree wholeheartedly that there are time it's just foolish do everything yourself. I remember one instance when I needing 5-600 pickets once and dreaded the thought of handling 75 lengths of 3/4'' sq and cutting them into 30'' pieces........Then I asked the supplier, how much to cut em? Cripes it was less than $150 and saved me probly a whole day of lifting and sawing and when I picked up the load it was on a pallet.....a forklift put it neatly into my truck and away I went, no lashing 20 footers onto the overhead rack, no flags......I spent a hundred and saved TIME, wear and tear on yous truly and that was good return by my reckoning........
