Thank you Frosty. I do need a better camera. The pictures don't do the knife justice. I'll try and get better pictures of it when I have some time. It's not easy working 60 hours a week on night shift.

Thank you Steve. It took me a lot longer than I wanted but, I'm pleased at the way it came out. 

I always tell people welding overhead is the same as welding flat. I know that sounds crazy but, it is the same. Biggest thing with overhead is watching the puddle and travel speed. It's like any other weld. Most people get better with time under the hood.  I've welded on just about anything and everything over the years from a dozer to a nuclear reactor. Keep it up and keep burning rods. It will come to you in time.

Here's a large one I made from a Sawmill Blade. (Stock Removal) It measures 14" 1/2 long and 3/16 thick. The handles are stabilized and dyed black ash burl.  The blade had some imperfections in it so I didn't kill myself trying to remove all of them. I kinda made most of it at work with a file and sandpaper due to the fact I didn't have my 2x72 there. It turned out well to be done with primitive tools. Sorry I for the bad pics. The thing has a great feel to it and is balanced better than anything I've made so far.

I'm looking for advice on water quinchable steel for making blades. I'm going to be doing some stock removal blades and wanted to use water instead of oil for my quinch.

Update on my condition. I'm back working again and doing ok. Regaining my sstrength back a little bit at a time. Being a Boilermaker is not the easiest job to have but, I don't think I ever want to do anything else.
I want to think all of you again for your thoughts and prayers.

Has anyone heard news on how Clay is doing after his surgery? I met him a couple of years back here in Chattanooga at the Choo Choo Forge during a tire hammer work shop. A really nice gentleman.

I'm doing much better and feeling better than I have in years. Lots of energy now days. I still can't lift anything heavy but that's coming in time. I just have to watch it or I'll be back in surgery again.

There's nothing wrong with having two (or more) anvils. I think if I could have afforded it, I would have kept the Vulcan as well.

What I've seen, driftwood tends to be hard. Most of the time it's already weathered down to the heart wood. If you have large streams or rivers, that's the place to look.

Thank you. Yes everything still works fine. I need to do some fine tuning on it but it works well as is.

My preference would be the green handle though. Both are nice knives and I'd be proud to own either.

I use devcon 2 ton epoxy and it seems to work well.

Thank each and every one of you. I had the surgery a week ago Tuesday. Im already home and wandering around the yard. I think my wife is gonna need the prayers and support as much as I do. It's a full-time job keeping me from doing anything. I promised her I would not over do it and I won't. Just not easy being very active and then not being able to do much of anything. If find by doing small stuff it helps the soreness though. Just can't lift anything over 5 lbs. I don't dare ask her about a 2 lb hammer lol. I alrwady know the answer.
