Mitch: That pattern is pretty time consuming, normally 2-3 days at the forge, then the rest of the time involved with grinding h/t and finishing the knife. Tiapan: We have had pretty good luck differentially hardening 1095 blades, and we normally get some pretty nice hamons. Just let me know when your ready to order yours man and im sure we can knock a chunk off for the great idea! Thanks for looking everyone

Josh are you asking if the 1095 is black before etched? because no its not, that is a result of the etching process. I use ferric chloride to etch all of our blades.

The first knife inspired another custom order and this one turned out even sweeter in my opinion! The twist has a higher layer count this time per customer request, and the ivory on this one is so phenomenal that tusk was grown with a knife handle in mind! We just finished these up for a customer and wanted to share some pics with you guys. First attempt at a hatchet but were so excited about it. And check out that maple! I agree with Rich, i use pcb etchant from radio shack. i dilute about 3:1. and have also found lightly sanding every 15 min or so gives you the best etch. then oil. Its what works for me anyway, hope it helps

Here is one of our new prototype knives the Black Hawk II. The blade is spirograph and the bolsters are implosion pattern OAL: 10" Blade: 5" We are thinking about making a small prodution line of this blade design in 1095 comments and critiques are always welcome so let me know what you guys think. This folder is dressed up with a twist blade, bolsters and back spring,file work pocket clip and some awesome mammoth ivory for a handle! Im pumped about this one it was a really fun build and it all came together so great! Oal: 8" Blade: 3 12" Again love this knife but comments and critiques from an unbiased source is always welcome!

Here is one of our newest knives. It is our explosion pattern on the blade, and the guard is a variation of our explosion. And the handle is some of the most incredible musk ox i have ever seen. Now dont take this the wrong way, because im not a pro or anything ive only been making damascus for about 8 months now but... I dont know if you have made stainless or cable damascus before ( i havent yet either) but from what i have read and been told cable damascus is harder than straight laminates, and then if you add stainless to that it makes it even more challenging. with that said i think you should keep going with what youve practiced and build a stack from flat stock. I use 1095 and 15n20 to make my billets. as far as corrosion, many kitchen knives are made with high carbon steels so as long as you regularly maintenance your knife it should be fine. The grind, you could hollow grind the edge i suppose, but you will have less drag on the cutting edge if you use a flat or convex grind making it much more user friendly. well now that i have said that ask me how i really feel Hope i could help Good luck with whichever method you go for and please post pics of your progress i would love to see it

Hey everyone, its been a while but i wanted to put up this new pattern and see what you guys thought I was messing around with some new ideas i had on how to make a totally different pattern but when i was done this is what i ended up with. I think its awesome, just wanted to get a few unbiased opinions. ive made a low and high layer billet so far heres some pics
