  1. Matt87's link was very helpful. I found this thread in a search and it answered all my questions. I plan to use antler for some blades I'm forging out of coil spring.
  2. There are some really helpful points of view in this thread. In my experiences selling on ebay, everyone wants a deal. Brand name goods hold their own, because they are a predictable commodity. Handcrafted items do not seem to fare as well in their ability to sell for a worthwhile price. So selling on ebay may be a lesson in trial and error. Sometimes it is hard to choose the right category or description for your item. Ebay fees are structured so that they make money even if you do not. Representing your item with excellent photographs and a detailed description can certainly help.
  3. I get my spikes from sections of RR ties that have been cut and used as fenceposts. hawaii hasn't had a railroad in many decades. I agree with the idea that it's not worth the risk of removing spikes from existing RR property. You can buy un-used spikes on ebay for as low as $1-$2 ea. Impressive blade, though.
