  1. You say a "new" anvil. If you don't mind me asking, what were you using for your "old" one?
  2. Please keep these coming! I have a ton of spikes that I'll be working with as soon as I get my forge finished. I'm definitely digging the roses!
  3. I found a 2-foot section of rail at a scrap yard on Friday, and they were real glad that I got ahold of it. Apparently a section that long can get caught in their shredder, and it being so hard, it would totally mess it up. They "gave" it to me for $0.10 a pound, or $5.90. :)
  4. Thanks, everyone. Glenn, I sent a personal message.
  5. Oops, that was on my to-do list, but I guess I forgot. Thank you all!
  6. Good morning to all. I'm new to the forum here, thought I would introduce myself. Smithing has always been an interest for me, figured I'd try and get started in it. Living in a college town, it'll have to be constrained to the weekends, mostly (classes and whatnot), so I think I'll set up shop back home (like 30 minutes away), just to avoid the hassle of the city legislature. I have the forge essentially set up, I have a few hammers, but an anvil still eludes me. Just to get a feel for the basics, I plan on starting with a forge shovel and a fireplace poker, both plans taken from Foxfire, book 5, but yet again, I'm missing a xxxx anvil! In short, I'm glad I stumbled across you guys.
