Skunk Hollow Forge

This is a picture of the smiths who attended a demo by Frank Turley at Skunk Hollow Forge, Morrison, co in 1975. Skunk Hollow was an early, for it's time, blacksmith school, and artisan ''ghetto''. The head honcho was Slim Spurling, who was a mentor to me. He's in the green shirt, with a big black beard. He died a few years ago. Frank still looks the same.........mb

    Ok I am not in the pic I was only 7 when it was taken. Can you point out Frank? I think I know but not sure, that was a few years back. Looks like some of the gentlemen are enjoying a cold Coors there.

    Frank is the guy to right of the fellow holding the beer, we were so mean then we drank our beer hot :P

    I was there shortly before or after this picture was taken. Slim was good to me too. I remember drinking the coffee with cream from the goat's milk.

    I'm surprised to see that my dad isn't in that picture. His name was George Murphy, and he apprenticed with Slim somewhere around that time. Unfortunately, his career as a blacksmith and hot shoe farrier was cut short by an accident where he broke his shoulder.
