August 12, 201015 yr Just dug out an old anvil from my garage and a friend it may be worth some money. I believe it to be a Hay Budden made in Brooklyn. The serial number looks to be J0394. Could someone maybe tell me something about this anvil please.
August 12, 201015 yr Check the serial # again, Hay Budden did not prefix with a "J". I would think what you are seeing as a "J" is some other number. If so then your anvil would be pre 1905. Weight and condition are everything in pricing an anvil. If you look under the 'Made in Brooklyn, NY' you should find the weight of you anvil. But whatever the case you have what is considered the "caddy" of anvils. Where are you located? anywhere close to East TEXAS!??! B)
August 12, 201015 yr Author The serial could be 90394. It has an 8 large space then a 6 under the Brooklyn NY I do live in North Texas
August 12, 201015 yr If so then your anvil was made in 1904, according to "Anvils in America" by Richard Postman, pg 303. The 8 and 6 could be the weight. I'm between Longview and Hallsville. 120 miles east of Dallas on I-20. Are you interested in learning to use your anvil?
August 12, 201015 yr Author My job at this time keeps me busy. I have a few more years before I retire then I may be interrested. I do thank you for the information. I will review this web site often. I generaly stick to auto repair web sites because that is more up my alley.

August 12, 201015 yr Now Now; I too am a Thomas, and offer a retirement ranch and home for wayward anvils here in New Mexico, where they can spend their days in the company of other anvils resounding to the sound of the hammer on hot metal on them! I don't even charge for the service though donations are always welcome! For wayward anvils I can show them the wall of shame and hope to scare them back into good behavior!
