Flaming S Forge Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I was making some split crosses today to replenish my stock for the upcoming demo events. I got the idea to make some split thunderbirds (eagles) . Here are 2 prototypes with minimal detail. Now that I know the concept will work, I have to come up with a must have design so they will sell. The one on the left was wired wheeled and then heated to draw a little color. The one on the right was just wire wheeled. Both were finished with bees wax. I can see these used for necklaces. What else could these be used for? Any comments or ideas are always welcome. Quote
mcraigl Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Size the opening so that it will open a bottle of beer. Looks to me like the one on the left is almost there already! Quote
Quenchcrack Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 When you do your cutting on the square billet, don't cut the end off of the piece that will be the top of the cross. Instead, make a thunderbird handle for a small ceremonial knife, complete with a guard, all from one piece! Quote
civilwarblacksmith Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 They look great. You should sell alot of those. Another design you might be able to do with that is the Pheonix, alittle more flowy on wings and tail. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I like the wings on the right one best and the tail on the left on best. The left one is still too much of a cross. I guess that you could make bolo ties out of them or make really small ones for hat pins. Nice work. Quote
