morbid
hey I'm a welder by trade but Blacksmithing has always interested me. I would like to get started but I don't know where to begin. I started playing around this week with Map gas, rebarb, my vice and a 2 1/2 pound sledge hammer. Before Map gas I tried Propane but I couldn't get it hot enough. Is there any reason I shouldn't use Oxyacetylene to heat my work? morbid
Finnr
Howdy! Main reason not to use O/A is expense. Whip up a small solid fuel or propane forge and life is a lot easier, and cheaper. Finnr
welder19
Welcome! If your going to use oxy/fuel then at least use oxy/propane instead of accetylene and use a rose bud. Like Finnr said, best thing to do is put together a forge, either soild fuel or propane, look around the site and else where on the net and you'll find more forge building info than you'll know what to do with, pick a style and size that you want to build and if you have questions don't hesitate to ask. Good luck! welder19
