Nick A
Hello I’ve had this anvil for a few years now and I believe it’s a Hay Budden but there’s some markings that I haven’t been able to figure out what they mean, so I’m hoping someone here might be able to help. The serial number is 36002 and another stamp that looks like It says “A Baldwin & Co. Warranted Orleans 104” I was told it was made in 1897 then told again it was made in 1903.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark mountains. If I'm not mistaken A. Baldwin & Co was a large hardware store back in the day. They probably had anvils made with their name on them, which Hay Budden would do. I would say the 104 is the weight in pounds if it was made by Hay Budden and serial number 36002 would be 1897 according to AIA. If you post some pictures, both sides and the bottom of the base it will help giving more information. It will also help to know where you are located.
