wtfnorm
Hi All, I'm looking for some help with the weight of my new Beaudry strap hammer. I have to transport it quite a distance and would love to know how much strain it might be on my trailer. There are no markings I have seen yet, but my calculation is that it is likely a 200# to 250#. The sow block is a guestimated 1200#. Picture attached, any info. would be much appreciated. arftist
figure at least double if not triple your estimated anvil weight.
wtfnorm
Thanks Arftist....double would be okay, triple would be a bit much for my trailer. I am going to put the anvil in the back of the truck. So if the machine then weighs in at under 2400 lbs. I should be good. Of course, I could get a bigger trailer.....I was going to stop buying big heavy stuff, soon, honest.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Just looking at the picture, I would guess a lot more than 2400 lbs. I would rent or borrow a bigger trailer but I always go for overkill. The weight's of the Beaudry hammers I have seen run from 2000 to 9000 pounds. http://www.newenglandblacksmiths.org/beaudry/
wtfnorm
Thanks for the information...they certainly are heavy!
arftist
I see now how unclear my answer was. What I meant was that you I think your anvil itself weighs two or three times more than 1200 pounds.
wtfnorm
Just a followup to finsh the thread. I put the motor and sow block in the back of the truck and the rest of the hammer in the trailer.....and made it! The sow block i calculated at 1627#, the motor was 400# and guessing the rest at about 3000-3500#. I had to dismantle it to get it out of the trailer as my hoist is only a 1 ton. Thanks for the help. Bob Brandl
A Beaudry strap hammer?
wtfnorm
Yup... I have torn it down and in the process of cleaning it up. It has been well used and somewhat abused. Just want to get it functional to see how everything works. You dont happen to have one do you? BPH1.jfif
