Luke March
So, due to a project at work, we now have about 1400 lbs of magnetite that we don't need; I have access to as much as I want. What are your favorite uses for magnetite?
ThomasPowers
ORE for smelting! Magnetite is one of the highest grade ores you can use in a bloomery. It's especially good if it's already sized to 100 mesh or so. It's like the "iron sand" used in the Japanese Tatara, just a bit cleaner. Luke March
Ok, there's one! Here's the spec sheet on the stuff I've got. 98% Iron oxide! Would it be worth segmenting it out and putting it up on the tailgating section? Shipping would be killer, but if anyone is having trouble finding magnetite for their smelting project, it might be worth it. I might do some smelting eventually; but I can't imagine I'll be smelting 1400 lbs! MagnaDense 2 Data Sheet 08-03US, 16-05.pdf
ThomasPowers
USPS flat rate box large will take 70 pounds and shipping cost is around US$20. When we bought magnetite for smelting the cost of shipping always exceeded the cost of the material---and that was buying it commercially! I'd love to see it for sale at Quad-State in 2021!
