October 27, 20187 yr I'm trying to learn more about heat treating and the different ways it can be done. I was wondering why fish soap and jet dry where added to a brine solution. What purpose do they serve for the steel.
October 27, 20187 yr Welcome aboard, glad to have you. If you'l put your general location in the header you might be surprised how many of the gang live within visiting distance. I was wondering where you'd get soap to wash fish till I looked at the keyboard. Dish soap and jet dry in brine is to break surface tension to prevent steam pockets insulating the steel making uneven quench. Jet dry is a surfacant and also prevents bubbles in general. They both serve the same general purpose but from slightly different angles in different ways. The soap also helps cut any oil residue that didn't get cleaned or burned off. Frosty The Lucky.
