Monthly Meeting (East) - Glengarry Pioneer Museum, Dunvegan

DescriptionThe Glengarry Pioneer Museum is excited to welcome blacksmiths and craftspeople from acrossOntario, Quebec, and the USA to our third-annual Smith-In Blacksmith Festival!

Opportunities:

The Glengarry Pioneer Museum Smith-In is an opportunity for blacksmiths to develop and share theirskills and for other craftspeople to share their products with our patrons and visiting smiths. This year,blacksmiths Mike Armstrong & Megan Carter will be conducting a weekend workshop for smiths interested in forging a Lancashire-pattern hacksaw (at this time the workshop is full).  There will again be gun smithing demonstrations in the museum’s blacksmith shop. The weekend will also feature blacksmith and craft demonstrators and a variety of vendors. There are opportunities for smiths and craftspeople to meet, demonstrate, and share ideas and techniques. Please let us know about any educational demonstrations, seminars, workshops, or presentations you might want to share.

If you wish to sell any products, we can help arrange a space to display your wares.

Facilities:

The museum reconstructed the forge in its Oliver Hamelin blacksmith shop in 2014, and Pat Taylor,David Brandow, Mike Armstrong, and Megan Carter helped to outfit the forge with working tools. TheWilliams Pavilion is an open-sided timber-frame barn with gravel floor that can accommodate workingsmiths. The Big Beaver schoolhouse can accommodate seminars and meetings. This year, themuseum will also be unveiling its newly-acquired portable forge. The museum’s other buildings canaccommodate various sorts of displays, and the grounds can accommodate tents.

There is ample onsite parking for trucks & trailers.

Please note that non-service dogs are prohibited on museum grounds.

Accommodations:

There will be spaces reserved onsite for any participant who wants to camp (tent or RV). Water andtoilets are available.

  • Food & Drink:

    The museum will be selling food onsite, and will offer food vouchers for demonstrators.

    Food can also be found in the nearby towns of Alexandria, St Isidore, and Maxville.
