Durablanket coating

Recommended Posts

so whats your favorite coating for durablanket-kaowl? where do you buy it? how thick of a coating will you paste on?
I have constructed a small gas forge, single T rex stile burner, 8" OD pipe, 16" long. good 1 1/2" to 2" kawol liner. hard kiln shelf plate floor.
i placed the burner in the side and i can see the fire spinning like it should. works alright, but next time i make a forge i think ill have the burners on top and have them point straight down and just have the burners bent to help keep the heat from rising

I get my forge materials from Darren Ellis Ellis Custom Knifeworks. His prices are as good as any and his customer service is top notch. I put a 3/8" layer of mizzou in the bottom of both my vertical and horizontal forges for flux resistance and resistance to mechanical damage. Then I coat the inswool with a couple of thick coats of satanite and follow that up with ITC-100 for improved heat reflection. Other people use other coating but this combination works fine for me. Read through Darren's FAQ section for more info.
