keithh999 Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 anyone know what steel they make the rigid threading dies for bolts out of??? im guessing its some pretty good steel cuz they seem to last fer-ever.. Quote
MRobb Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I'm not sure Keith. I have some old ones saved up from threading pipe. I'm still learning to read a spark test, but I think they are good steel. Mine are called "high speed threading dies". I can check with my suppliers. Maybe they can find out from the manufacturer. Or, I'm sure someone on this site has already figured it out. Quote
Chuck Richards Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Look on the die, If it says HSS then it is probably M2 cobalt steel or it says carbon steel or is not marked with HSS then they are a good quality high carbon steel. Quote
