Forge valve question.

Featured Replies

I am in the process of building my first forge. I'm just basically kind of feeling my way through it currently. I bought a couple of ball valves and some 1/4 pipe to connect them to the T, well, after I got home and got to looking it doesn't appear that I needed the valves and the extra connectors. I can just take my nipples and connect them directly to the T. The nipples have flair fittings on them that will run the copper pike to my burners. My question is, do I need to have the two extra ball valves or is is safe to run the forge without them?

I included a pic that has the T with the nipples in it with the extra pipe and ball valves above it.20160122_175709.thumb.jpg.7f9932dbd022be

A ball valve per burner lets you run one or both to better control forge temperature and fuel consumption. Did you check to see what size fitting you need to connect to the hose from the tank?

I didn't think about the ability to control each burner independently.

I checked the valve I have against a 1/4 inch black propane hose they had there at Ace and they fit together with no problems.

Then you're golden.
