alwe1
I will soon be in possession of a champion rivet forge and I was wondering if the fire pot needs to be lined with refractory cement or not? I have heard both ways so I'm wondering what is the proper way to use one.
DKLabs
If the firepot is relatively thick i wouldn't worry about it. I think what i keep seeing is 3/8 in is enough to not need it anything less is what I've heard you should line. My charcoal forge has a firepot made from an old metal bucket and i didnt line it with anythin more than ashes. When i first start my fire it's cleaned out and i let the few ashes pile up on the sides and i havent had any trouble out of it.
swedefiddle
Good Morning, I don't think refractory will help or is needed. What used to be used was clay from a river bank. Like what DK said, I line them with whatever is available, crushed broken brick, ashes, clinker, ????? The reality is, it is not part of the fire, refractory is not advantageous.
