1991Crispy
Hey Guys I am fairly new to the site and to blacksmithing and still learning a lot but I have found that the hardest part for me is finding decent blacksmithing coal. Does any one know where I can find some bituminous coal up near johannesburg or Polokwane? Cheers
ianinsa
Ever heard of Delmas and/or Witbank some frightening open cast coal mines there(xxxxx on the landscape ) but seriously ask your domestic, it's easy to get bags in the informal settlements. Try McPhail coal too 011 570 5800 as an alternative. Good joss Ian

Claude Brandon
Sounds strange but I saw coal (not the braai kind if any bright spark asks ) being sold at Builders Warehouse about R89 for a bag. I have not tried it yet as my forge is still "Work in progress" but will advise if it works and how well. Regards Claude.

George N. M.
Welcome aboard from 7500' in SE Wyoming. Glad to have you. South Africa is rather out of my area of expertise but I would try looking up farriers and farrier supply places. If you cannot find coal or coke you may have to go with charcoal as a forge fuel.
