NC ABANA 4th Qtr Meeting

A shout out to western NC/Eastern TN/SW VA/ northern SC. From the NC ABANA email.

 

>Come see what today's blacksmith is doing. We do not shoe horses.

    Next Saturday November 16 the Blue Ridge Student Blacksmith Guild will host North Carolina Artist Blacksmiths Association of North America, 4th Quarter Business meeting. During this meeting David Billings of Oak Hill Iron will demo what is called the Prestige. David is a very talented blacksmith on his way on being one of the best.

       Please bring your own safety glasses. We have very few to loan out if any.

 

     This will be a great time to see the new welding/blacksmith facility.Watch an outstanding demo. Plus meet blacksmiths from all around the state.

      "David Billings moved to Morganton NC from Winston-Salem NC to work at Oak Hill Iron.  He has been there  for six months, prior to Oak Hill Iron he worked at blue Mountain Metal works in Banner Elk NC.  He will be demonstration  what’s know at Oak Hill Iron as the prestige,  it consist of a long taper bought around and through a punched hole with a leaf forged on one end making a ring. It starts as  ¾ inch round stock and is forged and punched by hand and with a team."

     NC ABANA is the North Carolina Affiliate of the Artist Blacksmith Association of North America, an organization of men and women who are practicing and preserving the skills of blacksmithing. The organization includes hobbyists, farriers (people who shoe horses), blade smiths (knife makers), architectural fabricators, sculptors, museum interpreters, furniture makers, and other artists and craftsmen who utilize the traditional skills of the blacksmith to create useful and beautiful objects.
