5starhobo (blake)
Hey guys! Thought i would show you the champion 400 blower i got the other day for $150. Not too sure if i got a good deal or not but i don't see too many that still have the tripod base. Anyways it runs smooth and looks like it still has the original handle :) Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated!
marcusb
That would be a middle of the road price here, I have seen them higher they dont sell, seen them lower and the go fast.
SReynolds
you asked so I will tell you. Here in Ohio, that is a 100.00 blower, tops. I purchased one, complete with the stand for 40.00 I cleaned it and painted it, installed some new parts then sold it for 100.00 One of my Champion forges came w/the 400 blower and that cost me 75.00 If I wanted one badly, I'd pay 200.00 for one. I enjoy the 400 blowers. The ball bearings are rebuildable. If the have any rust pits at all on the races or the balls, they are loud. Davidrw70
I picked up a 400 without stand for $90 the other week.........Where would I start looking to find parts? I am going to clean it up, sand blast the rust. Everything is there except for the wood handle and gaskets.....The internals are strong, oil cap is there, all bearings are still pretty well packed. SReynolds
What parts; The stand? Bearings? Handle? There are gaskets? I know of no gaskets.........sometimes folks place a cork between the fan housings. "With out the stand" begs the question............where in heaven's name do all the staands get to?????????? Huh? Seriously folks!! Where? I find one that is reasonable WITH the stand, ,,,,,,,,I buy it. Are they like the lost sock after every wash cycle? Stupid, I say. The fan housing had a gasket of some sort in it when I took it apart! It was an old dry rotted that basically turned to dust when I pulled the housing apart. I was thinking of just using a small hemp cord to replace it after I get it all cleaned up. I have seen a lot of 400's for sale most of which did not have a stand. I have never seen a stand for sale by itself. Most likely I am going to build a stand connected to my forge legs when I get ready to build it. SReynolds
The tripod leg mount has been on ebay time to time. You don't need nor want the legs. They will be rotted through. I have a local machine shop make 'em for me from good old black pipe. They have a heavy pipe bender that puts the correct radius into said pipe. BackyardBlacksmithin
Sreynolds: How is the blower mounted on that small forge? Im wanting to do a similar style mount on mine and like how that one looks. Any chance we could get a few pictures of the mounting bracket itself? SReynolds
Yes. I can take some pics of the mount if you'd like.
KYBOY
You guys are lucky, you cant touch a decent 400 around here for $100. No way, no how..$200 all day long if you ever find one!
BackyardBlacksmithin
SReynolds: Ya id like to see the mounting bracket. Im building my new coal forge totally from scratch and I want the blower to be mounted to it so I can roll it around all as one unit. SReynolds
This is the clamp. One side is fixed as in "it is part of the forge frame". The other side is removable and is what provides clamping action. Thus the blower worm gear housing is clamped between the two parts. There is a long through bolt under blower. It is secured to the fixed side. The clamps side has a hole into which the threaded rod passes and a large wing nut forces the camp halves together. The two clamps have a V notch into which the casting of the blower housings sets into. You can make a V notch simply be welding three pieces of 1/4 inch thick stock together ( or thicker materials if you like.). The middle piece would be set back from the other two.
