June 7, 201313 yr I recently finished machining bases (dovetail inserts with threaded holes to attach dies) and a set of combo dies from 4140 and was looking to see if anyone has experience with heat treating dies.
June 7, 201313 yr You've got allot of time and money invested, correct? Have em professionally done......
June 7, 201313 yr Author The bases took some time but the dies were quite easy to make. I will check with some local heat treating companies to see what the cost would be.
June 8, 201313 yr RAPPETY RAPPETY RAPPETY... 300 TIME A MIN..... Oh XXXXXXXX ( HAVE A PRO DO THEM.) Sid does... Jim
June 8, 201313 yr You will be very happy and money and time ahead. $83.00 is a good price. Mine were $90 plus shipping. Make sure they understand what they are going to be used for.
June 9, 201313 yr Another option for future reference is to buy 4140 from steel supplier in already half-hardened state. Still easy enough to machine and start using immediately after! :D I use half-hard 4140 as starting material for the bigger type dies used on a Nazel 3B and such. Stan
