Waylon63
I had acquire this post drill a few years ago and cleaned it up and painted it. The feed arm had been broken top and bottom and I welded and forged the repairs in the second photo. A question I have in photo #8 is the lever with the #3 cast in it, what was the purpose for that? I realize it is missing the crank handle, it fits on the square shaft above the lever. Because of the wheel to the left and the Crank shaft above the lever can only turn a little over half way. Again any information w=as to when the drill was made would be appeciated.
Jim Coke
Greetings Waylon, I have a lot of post drills and have never seen one like yours.... I don't understand the use of the second small red wheel... If I had to guess.. The crank arm would fit on that shaft and the lever would allow you to remove the gear so you could operate the unit without flywheel action.. Does the feeder work off a cam ? Does it work?? I hope this helps... I look forward to see what comes up. Good luck Jim
Waylon63
Hi Jim. the feed does work of of a cam that goes around the drill shaft, not a lobe on the fly wheel. As for the small wheel I'm at a lost too. Like i said the lever reall doesn't do any thing other than turns about a half turn over that gear. photo 7 shows the "cam" around the shaft in the lower part of the pic. Jim Coke
Greetings again, I still think that your crank arm belongs where the small red wheel is... Otherwise the crank arm would hit the wall.. I think if you took off the wheel you might be able to remove the no. 3 lever.. We will figure it out.... Jim
Waylon63
It might.although on my other drills the handled go past the back of the drills, necessitating they be mounted on a post. I tried turning it from tne small wheel
Waylon63
Sorry i tried posting from my phone and it locked up. I tried turning the drill from the small wheel but there was too much resistance, Not enough mechanical advantage.
Jim Coke
Greetings again Waylon, Now I understand.. The small red wheel is designed to be removable so that you can remove the small gear under the lever .... Put the small wheel back on and you can now use the small wheel for drilling without flywheel inertia.. ( very small drills at low speed ) That's the best guess I have... I hope this helps.
