anvil ID at local auction

hey guys,

 

this anvil is up for auction here locally, this is the only picture available I could find,

I haven't seen one with that type of horn. Does any one know who made this? or have any info??

Looks kind of weird - pointy horn and the hardie and pritchel are way out of place

I would guess that it was a home made job. I would not want to pay much for it myself

Clinton, I am going to take the opposite view. I think that it is either (1) a custom order from a known maker, or (2) from a smaller less well known maker.

 

Hard to tell from one grainy photo, but I think the lines look too clean to be a home made item, or a cast iron fake. The conical horn and small hardy and its placement close to the waist look like earlier mid 19th century work. The long horn and tail is more late 1890s style. Maybe a transitional piece?
