Everything Mac
Hold on. A female anvil? Should I be checking out girl names? Some one must know why there is an additional hole? It could be that it has been filled in, there is one on eBay that has a hole where this one looks to be filled in though I always thought Pritchett holes near the bick came out of the side of the anvil? Cheers guys Andy

Cheers guys Andythere is no always when it comes to anvils. They were often customized to suit. Most old forged anvils were basicly hand made so a smith went to the anvil maker and said I want extra hole here they got it.
Everything Mac
Fair enough. I suppose the plot thickens. It has clearly had an interesting history, I know the guy who had it before me was a farrier in the highlands of Scotland but beyond that I don't know. Everything Mac
Looks like I'm going to end up going round in circles trying to identify it. Maybe I should just be happy she's mine and has earned her way! All the best Andy
Everything Mac
I just spoke to a very helpful gentleman over the pond at matchless antiques, he agrees that it looks like a hole has been filled up and suggests that it might be an Attwood or Nash. Doesn't seem to fit with the letters on the side but who knows. It's nice to have some vague idea. Cheers Andy
