quint
So in a box of stuff i picked up today there was this one axe hammer thing I am not really sure what it was intended for. Any help would be appreciated. It has one tooth broken off but I have just never scene one before.
VaughnT
That's a stone-mason's hammer. The weight is a bit hefty and it's all directed onto a minimal amount of surface area (the points of the teeth). This is just one of several types of hammers that were used to smooth the rough surface of quarried stone. If you grind the teeth off, you can make a nice straight-peen hammer. I have a different model of stone hammer that I've done similarly with, and it works rather nicely.
